CHALLENGE

The elected city councilor needed an app to improve communication with residents. The app should allow residents to submit reports about issues they notice, including text and photos.

It was crucial that these reports could be processed quickly and efficiently, due to the councillor’s limited time and resources for administrative tasks

Additionally, the residents needed to track the progress of their reported issues directly within the app. This functionality aimed to make the reporting process transparent and responsive, ensuring that problems were addressed promptly and residents felt heard and involved in their community’s well-being. 

SOLUTION

An app was developed to act as a virtual reception for the city councilor, allowing residents to easily report issues. Users can take photos of problems, add descriptions, and submit them directly to the councilor. The app, available for both iOS and Android, requires registration through social accounts like Facebook to reduce fake accounts.

To prevent spam and false reports, the app uses AI to analyze metadata from the photos and additional information from the user’s phone. This includes verifying if the photo was taken with the device submitting the report and if the submission location matches the photo’s metadata.

Furthermore, each report is assigned a status that users can track, ensuring transparency and allowing residents to see the progress of their reported issues. This solution streamlines communication, making it easier for the councilor to address community concerns efficiently.

RESULTS

The app has been a resounding success, with over 1,000 problems reported each month. This efficient reporting system has significantly increased the trust of the residents in their local government.

The transparent process and the ability for residents to track the progress of their issues have been particularly well-received.

The innovative approach has garnered positive attention in local media, with numerous articles highlighting the app’s impact on community engagement and problem resolution. The councilor’s ability to address issues promptly and effectively has strengthened the relationship between the local government and its citizens.
